In the middle of a record setting snowy Seattle winter with more white flakes forecasted to arrive. Completely unusual for this region. With hills and ice, snow days and power outages, we’ve been all kinds of creative to navigate commutes, work, school, daily life. Remember last August with endless summer sunshine and mild temps and blue skies? Flashback to a perfect day for a bat mitzvah service and celebration. I was fortunate enough to work for this family with their previous mitzvahs and humbled to be included again. Lots of laughter, humor, warmth, genuine smiles and hugs while surrounded by family come from near and far and their warm, wonderful community and friends. A couple firsts for me (can’t wait for more firsts!) — female rabbi, female cantor and a bat mitzvah — and an impromptu exit from the temple aloft in a chair! We laughed out loud and scrambled to document this amazing exit. Celebration happens! Life happens! You just never know how it unfolds and it makes for amazing memories.
